Short description: In this volume they have gathered together with many photographs from the Museo del Estanquillo collection.

Extensive description: Over the years, Carlos Monsiváis questioned himself again and again about photography in Mexico and about Mexico, one of his many interests as a critic and collector. In this volume, together with many photographs from the collection with the Estanquillo museum, the pages dedicated to these fleeting but unforgettable images have been collected in books, magazines, prologues, newspapers, catalogs. What do the snapshots we have taken of ourselves from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century tell us of the beautiful women of the Belle Époque and the naked crowd of the Zócalo between Spencer Tunic's camera? From the Revolution underway and the Casasola brothers to the institutionalized Revolution and the May brothers, coming from Spain as refugees. The cast of image hunters that Carlos Monsiváis has paraded before us is remarkable: Sotero Constantino Jiménez, the Casasola, and May, Gabriel Figueroa and Manuel Alvares Bravo, Héctor García and Rogelio Cuellar: also Pedro Mayer and Rafael Déniz, Armando Herrera, Francisco Mata, Yolanda Andrade, Lola Alvarez Bravo and several more. These pages are mirrors of the country and of us, images of our memories: Wonders that are, shadows that were, captured by that kind of photographer in Mexico who was Carlos Monsiváis.
